How does a photovoltaic system work?
When solar radiation hits the modules of a photovoltaic system, direct current is produced. Since the grid runs on alternating current, an inverter converts the direct current into the alternating current you need.
Besides consuming your self-generated PV electricity directly, you can store it in a battery and use it at times when the PV system is not producing energy.
Is a photovoltaic system worth it?
Whether a photovoltaic system pays off depends on several factors: the location, the costs, your average consumption, the feed-in tariff and possible federal or state subsidies. That assessment is exactly what the PV calculator does for you.
With a photovoltaic system you become an independent, sustainable electricity producer — supplying your home or business with heat, light and power for appliances and electric cars, and putting garage, house and terrace roofs to work.
What should I consider when buying?
For the installation of a photovoltaic system, the house itself must be suitable. Location, orientation and roof type play a decisive role. Feel free to contact us by phone or through the contact form to find out whether your house is suitable.
When buying a photovoltaic system, all key components must be of the highest quality — including the solar modules, the solar generator, the charge controller, the battery, the inverter and the backup power supply. We help you keep track of everything that matters.
Which subsidies can I get?
- Federal photovoltaic subsidies under the Renewable Energy Expansion Act (EAG): www.oem-ag.at
- Photovoltaic subsidies from the energy department of the State of Salzburg for private households and farmers: salzburg.gv.at
- Municipal photovoltaic subsidies: contact your municipal administration for details.
Austria, the federal states and in some cases energy providers contribute subsidies towards the cost of a PV system. Note that not all subsidies can be combined — you should generally apply before purchasing and taking delivery of the system.
In general, anyone earning profits with a PV system must pay tax on them. For private individuals, who usually count as sole traders or small businesses, the tax and social-insurance burden can be avoided as long as the profit stays below the marginal earnings threshold.
